International Women’s Day Flowers - Amazing Graze Flowers

Around this time of year, it’s important to not only appreciate, but celebrate all the women around you. Whether it’s your wife, daughter, mother, friend, or colleague, it’s important to reflect on the progress and achievements made by these phenomenal human beings.

What is International Women’s Day?

Although this should happen all year round, International Women’s Day is a great day to reflect on the contributions of the women around you. This day helps to generate enriching and engaging conversations around the movement of women’s rights. To promote the values of inclusivity and equality, International Women’s Day, as the name states, is global and is there to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women everywhere.

Why is International Women's Day important?

While this day is used to celebrate women’s achievements and embrace each other's differences, it is also an empowering day to raise awareness about inequalities that women face everyday around the world. It’s been apparent that throughout history, women’s contributions to society have been ignored, belittled, and limited, with certain factors surrounding gender equality gaps taking place globally.

International Women’s Day helps to draw attention to issues such as wage disparity, unequal education, both physical and mental harassment, and the denial of basic human rights.

When is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day falls on the 8th of March every year.

What is the flower for International Women's Day?

It’s said that the official flower of International Women’s Day is the Mimosa flower, however, there is a wide selection of flowers that can be used and gifted in place if Mimosa flowers aren’t available.

The Mimosa flower traditionally originated in Italy, with its symbolism stemming from the flower’s seasonality and abundance of growth during the time of the first International Women’s Day celebration, Festa Della Donna in 1946. Additionally, the Mimosa flower represents strength and sensitivity, with the colour yellow also symbolising cheerfulness and joy.

That being said, while the Mimosa flower is the most commonly used to have displayed or gifted on this day, it may not necessarily be accessible to everyone. With this in mind, other flower alternatives that are just as great for this day include roses, tulips, lilies, and gerberas.

How to celebrate International Women's Day

#1 Book a High Tea

The pinnacle of any morning tea is high tea! It’s not everyday you get to sit back and enjoy a cup of tea with some freshly baked scones, so why not do it on this day of celebration and achievement? You’ll find that hosting a high tea is a great option for groups as most high tea venues will either have a function room or will be able to hold a separate space for you (depending on the size of your group) - meaning your group will be able to enjoy the event in private.

#2 Host a Workshop

International Women’s Day is renowned for the empowerment that comes associated with it. It’s important to not only celebrate women’s achievements, but also create a safe space for women to share their struggles and stories. Hosting a storytelling workshop encourages women to speak out and be completely open, allowing others who may be going through the same thing to feel just as motivated and empowered to keep going.

#3 Movie Marathon

Female representation in the film industry is extremely important and has a significant impact on how an audience can gain a better understanding of gender norms and shapes the cultural perceptions. When movies and other forms of media depict women who are not the victim, but the hero or main character, it helps to build other women’s perception of themselves. Hosting a female-lead or directed movie marathon is a great way to show solidarity and have a good time.
